Sophie is a Registered Paramedic, graduate from Western Sydney University and Wisemans Ferry local resident of 15+ years. Sophie founded the Community Defib Project in late 2018 whilst studying to be a Paramedic at University. In 2020 Sophie received the NSW Ministry of Health's Healthier Communities Aw

Sophie is a Registered Paramedic, graduate from Western Sydney University and Wisemans Ferry local resident of 15+ years. Sophie founded the Community Defib Project in late 2018 whilst studying to be a Paramedic at University. In 2020 Sophie received the NSW Ministry of Health's Healthier Communities Award as a part of the NSW/ACT Young Achiever AWards. Sophie also received Western Sydney University's Woman of the West - HIghly Commended Young Woman of the West for 2021. Sophie continues to lead the project dramatically changing the face of public access defibrillation among multiple communities.

Ian is a passionate local community member of the project founding community Wisemans Ferry.

Ian lived in Castle Hill for 25 years before making the 'tree change' to Wisemans Ferry 5 years ago. 

It quickly became obvious to Ian that the access to emergency help in suburbia was far better than in the rural areas of

It quickly became obvious to Ian that the access to emergency help in suburbia was far better than in the rural areas of The Hills Shire. Ian is an active member of the Wisemans Ferry RFS to help support the local community and is now joins the Community Defib Project team to continue to make a difference in his local community and beyond..

 Dr Paul Simpson is the Director of Academic Program for Paramedicine at Western Sydney University. Paul began his career as a paramedic in 1996, and continues to practice as a registered intensive care paramedic with NSW Ambulance. Paul has a PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine from University

Carpet is an Intensive Care Paramedic with many years of paramedicine experience, including responding to many sudden cardiac arrest patients. Having patients responding to defibrillation and sitting up talking minutes after is where the passion and drive for the Defibshop comes from! Currently, Carpet

Carpet is an Intensive Care Paramedic with many years of paramedicine experience, including responding to many sudden cardiac arrest patients. Having patients responding to defibrillation and sitting up talking minutes after is where the passion and drive for the Defibshop comes from! Currently, Carpet fulfils the roles of Chairman of the Ambulance Provient Fund and has previously held many other roles including Secretary of the Australian Resuscitation Council NSW (ARC NSW) Branch.

Dr Liz Thyer is the Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) in the School of Health Sciences for the Western Sydney University. Liz was formerly an Advanced Life Support Paramedic for Victoria Ambulance Service for 11 years including roles including clinical instructor and peer support officer. Liz’s research interests include paramedic education and mental health.
