Community Defib Project

Installing community accessible defibrillators to vulnerable communities..

Installing community accessible defibrillators to vulnerable communities..Installing community accessible defibrillators to vulnerable communities..Installing community accessible defibrillators to vulnerable communities..Installing community accessible defibrillators to vulnerable communities..

how does it all work?

we're here to help you through every step of the way

Our team is here to support you and your community along the way but it's important for the success of the project in your community for work in your community to be locally led and community driven, it's why the project has been successful to date.

Without the project being community led and driven, community members are less likely to donate to the cause, sponsor the project and more importantly be engaged in the educations or know where these life saving community defibs are.

Our team is here to guide you through every step of the process, from introducing the project, to fundraising, to planning, to installations, education and then of course the ongoing maintenance and support to keep these units ready for community access.

step 1 - get in touch

Get in touch with our team either through our website or email info@communitydefibproject.org.au

Let us know a bit about your community. We're here to make your very own 'Community Defib Project' a reality with 24/7 AEDs.

step 2 - speak with our team

One of our friendly support staff will be in touch and might make a booking for you to speak with one of our directors. This part of the process is important as we want to make sure we answer any questions your may have, from understanding the difference between a community defib and a community AED to what a 24/7 AED means!

step 3 - introduction workshop

Our team will the book your community in for an Introduction Workshop,  this will be either via zoom or in person and we will work with you to find the best dates. The Introduction workshop is important for community members who are interested in the project to come along and learn about how the project works and how we will assist you to achieve your community's goals. The introduction workshop will be delivered by our experienced team members.

Important: The introduction workshop is not a CPR education workshop, it's for you to learn everything about the project, community defibs, 24/7 AEDs and more. Plus learn about that project's orgins in Wisemans Ferry and what did and didn't work!

But don't worry the CPR & defib educatio will come later!

step 4 - local committee

After your introduction workshop, it's time to set up your committee. We ask each community to have a minimum of 2-3 volunteers to form your local committee to represent your community and drive your project locally. We're not about coming into a community and telling you where your community defibs should be etc. We're here to guide you, but your local knowledge and contacts, is what makes the project work in your community!

Our team will be in touch to confirm your Team Leader + committee members.

step 5 - start up flyer

To promote the project in your community, our team can put together a flyer for your to distibute locally to tell your community that community defibs are coming soon and the importance of 24/7 AEDs. This is a really successful way we have started the project running in each community.

step 6 - Planning

Once your committee is all set up and ready to go, our team will work with you to work out what the best next steps are for you. We have a planning template that our team likes to assist you with so we're all on the same page, this helps identify how many community defibs you would like, the best locations, possible sponsors and makes a plan for fundraising.  Our team will also assist you to identify existing communities in your community and to see if they can be included in the project by making them a 24/7 AED to save your communntiy $$ and have the greatest community coverage.

Every community is different and some communities have a plan already in place, we will work with you to do what's best for you.

step 6 - fundraising

It's time to fundrasie! Unfortunately the CDP does not receive any ongoing funding, so we need to fundraise for each community and community defib. But don't worry we have plent of ways to do this!

  • Donations >$2 are tax deductible & can be made & directed to your community via paypal or direct debit)
  • Sponsorship - we have sponsorship packages started at $500 that we can asssit you to contact local businesses to request support
  • Grants - our team are here to submit grants on your community's behalf

There are plenty of other ways we can support you to fundraise, please chat with our friendly team.

step 7 - installs

When the time comes to complete your installs, our team is here to support you through the way.

We provide the 24/7 AED, cabinet, stands, cases, signage + everything you need for the unit to be an operational 'community defib'.

Our team will also assist you with the install withoptions for install:

  1. Install through CDP install team
  2. Self install locally

step 8 - education

Once your community project is complete, or nearing complete we will help you plan an launch day. The launch day is designed to not only celebrate the community and your efforts but also ensure all community members know where the community defibs are and what to do in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest in your community.

Our artist will put together a map of the defibs in your community, a long with packs that will be dsitributed on the day so that every community member has the information they need. You can see some examples throughout our website from Wisemans Ferry.

Launch events generally take 6 weeks to plan to be successful and require about 1-2 hours of community time to complete the education presentation.

step 9 - ONgoing post the project

After the project is complete in your area, our team will support you to ensure that the community defibs are operational and should they be accessed, our team is here to look after it all.

Each defib will need 1 community member per month to complete the simple monthly check (through our website) and our team will monitor the units.

There are small maintenance costs to the project continuing beyond completion for things like pads and batteries that go out of date, and keeping the units clean but our team will work with you to facilitate this.

A defib, short for defibrillator, is a life saving piece of medical equipment used to shock the heart out of the abnormal rythm is may go into during a sudden cardiac arrest

An AED / automated external defibrilator a device that can be used by anyone to try and save the life by someone who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest. The device will attempt to shock the hearts abnormal rythm back to a normal one in an attempt to save a life.

Yes,  the device is safe to be used by any member of the public simply by turning the device on and followng it's instructions.

A Community Defib is an AED (automated external defibrillator) that is available within the community 24/7 for any community member to access if needed.

A sudden cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that can happen to anyone at any time. It occurs when the victim is unsconsious and stops breathing. It is a time critical medical emergency that requires immediate intervention to try and reverse.

Yes, with early access to a defibrillator and effective cpr, a sudden cardiac arrest, is possible to be reversed.

The CDP does not provide any form of medical assistance. We simply assist to install community defibs within the community for community members to access if they require.

Call 000, and commence CPR. Follow the instructions of the Call Taker. Advise the call taker here is a local community defib. They will then help you to access the defib and apply before the ambulance arrives.

All CDP community defibs are available 24/7 using the access code as listed on the cabinet. All items required are in the case within the cabinet.

After a community defib gets accessed within the community, there is a QR code on the unit to report access. An experienced CDP team member will then get in touch with the community member who accessed the unit to retrieve the unit and support the community member. We will then arrange for a loan unit to go into it's place. The unit is able to be used again once services and consumables are replaced, our team will also arrange this.

Yes the Community Defib Project frequently received reports from communities that a community defib is accessed to support the community during a medical emergency.

Yes absolutely. Units within the community already should be utilised as this saves your community $$ an allows you to have better coverage. The unit will need to become 24/7 accessible in a CDP cabinet and pass our assessment and compliance checks.
