The first community of the project, Wisemans Ferry often referred to as ‘The Forgotten Valley’ is a small community in the heart of the Hawkesbury River. Wisemans Ferry is central to surrounding suburbs Lower Macdonald, Gunderman, Laughtondale, Webbs Creek, Leetsvale and Central Macdonald.
Wisemans Ferry separated by the Hawkesbury River, is half-way between Windsor and Brooklyn, has several geographical challenges including the need for vehicle ferries to access either side of the community. The total regions population is approximately 915 people (ABS, 2016) with a median age of approximately 50. From the Sydney side of the river, Wisemans Ferry town, the nearest ambulance station is a approximately 42 minutes away and the nearest hospital is 40 minutes away.
By providing community accessible defibrillators to the Wisemans Ferry region we aim that residents will be 5-10 minutes at worst case from an AED. This will ultimately improve residents chance of survival.
